も: also, too, even

Use も to include something in a set already active in the conversation.

In short

も commonly replaces は or が when the point is “this one too”. Depending on context and emphasis, it can also contribute meanings such as “even” or appear in quantity expressions.

How it works

私も行きます means “I will go too.” 日本語も英語も話します pairs も to say both Japanese and English are spoken.

Useful contrast

Its meaning comes from what is being added or included, not from one fixed English word.

Examples

私も学生です。
I am a student too.
水もください。
Water too, please.

Common pitfall

Do not stack は/が and も together mechanically for the basic “also” use; も often takes their slot.
