ちゃんと vs しっかり

Two common adverbs for doing something properly, reliably or firmly.

In short

ちゃんと often means properly/correctly/as expected: ちゃんと食べてね. しっかり often emphasizes firmness, reliability, thoroughness or staying composed: しっかり確認してください.

How it works

They overlap, but しっかり tends to feel stronger or more robust, while ちゃんと often points to meeting an expected standard.
